Catherine Bishop

Catherine provides a compassionate, non-judgmental, supportive environment in which it is safe to explore issues which are troubling you as well as your hopes and dreams. Working collaboratively and with gentle curiosity she sees symptoms as messages to be explored on the way to developing a better understanding of your relationship to yourself, others, your values and beliefs. The work aims to help you develop greater freedom of choice.

She works with clients feeling 'stuck' or confused, experiencing difficulties with relationships, grief, loss, depression, stress, work - life balance, eating disorders, low self esteem, anxiety, trauma, abuse, mid-life crisis, searching for meaning, identity or looking to fulfill their potential. She has a special interest in working with people who are seeking to live more creatively.

Catherine's approach is integrative and transpersonal. She draws on a range of approaches to suit each individual's preferences and needs. She works holistically with body, feelings, mind and spirit to help integrate experiences, insights and parts of yourself which may be in conflict or hidden, as well as explore more satisfying ways of living. She also draws on image and metaphor, creativity and intuition to facilitate greater self awareness and the possibility of change, starting with very real difficulties in the present and exploring what might be seeking to emerge.

The work may involve just talking, or may include the use of imagery, art or visualisations, but this work does not require artistic skill.

Her theoretical background includes Object Relations, Gestalt, Attachment Theory and the work of Jung and Assagioli.

Catherine has been working in private practice since April 2010. She has extensive experience in the world of education, as a primary and secondary school teacher, teacher trainer and consultant for foreign languages in primary schools. She has also worked as a tutor for school refusers, cared-for children and teacher of English as a foreign language. She brings to her work a love of the arts, particularly contemporary dance and a belief in the healing power of creativity.

She has a Diploma in Psychosynthesis Counselling from the Institute of Psychosynthesis and is continuing her studies towards an MA in Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy. She has also completed a Certificate in Counselling Skills with Children using the Arts at the Institute for Therapy in Arts and Education and a Certificate in Couples Counselling using the Arts with Time2relate. She is supervised at Institute of Psychosynthesis and Time2relate. She works within the ethics of UKCP.
