Chris Burgess

Chris has over 15 years' experience as a therapist, working with clients on a wide range of issues. He aims to draw on his skills and experience, as appropriate to the client's particular needs. His supportive and non-judgemental approach provides an opportunity for the client to gain a better understanding of their problems or difficulties. Finding a new perspective may help the client to open up the possibility of moving forward, or making any changes that feel right. It might also lead to the discovery of new meanings in life, developing a sense of self-acceptance, or finding new strategies to deal with particular circumstances.

Chris is committed to, and works with, a diverse range of people from different cultures, ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations and those with mental health problems.

Previous Experience:

Chris has over 20 years' experience of working as a manager in the charities sector. In addition to being in private practice as a therapist since 1992, Chris has worked both as a student counsellor in university settings and as a telephone helpline counsellor. He has worked in a mental health service for 12 years, taught counselling skills and theory for 5 years at Crawley College, and been a trustee of the Psychosynthesis and Education Trust for 3 years.

Training:

Chris originally trained in Integrative Psychosynthesis Counselling (Institute of Psychosynthesis and the Communication and Counselling Foundation, London). He subsequently trained in James Bugental's Existential Humanistic psychotherapy, and in Psychodynamic psychotherapy with an inner London mental health service. His work is also influenced by the ideas and concepts of the analytical psychologist, C.G.Jung.
